of the Dissertation Performance Evaluation Under Modeling Uncertainty: A Unified Approach Using Spherically Invariant Random Process by Cheng-An Yang Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering University of California, Los Angeles, 2015 Professor Kung Yao, Chair In this dissertation, we considered the exceedingly general spherically invariant random process (SIRP) as a unifying framework for studying the wireless communication fading channels. In addition, we studied the important issue of modeling uncertainty, where only limited knowledge of the underlying fading channel statistics is known. The moment space methodology was proposed to characterize the uncertainty range of the system performance. Since performance evaluation for wireless communication systems frequently involve Monte Carlo simulation, we introduce the Super-Efficient Monte Carlo simulation methodology and the concept of Approximate Super-Efficiency (ASE) to improve the convergence rate of Monte Carlo simulation. While conventional Monte Carlo simulation yields the convergence rate 1/N , our Super-Efficient Monte Carlo simulation has a superior convergence rate 1/N for integrands of the Super-Efficient type, and 1/N for ASE algorithm, where α ∈ [1, 2]. Finally, we studied the downlink throughput maximization problem in cellular networks. Inspired by the multi-armed bandit problem, we proposed several algorithms to solve the online throughput maximization problem, and provided convergence analysis. The proposed algorithms achieved up to 99% of the performance upper bound within 1000 time steps.

Experimental results of subband acoustic echo cancelers under spherically invariant random processes
The subband adaptive filter system has been applied to the acoustic echo cancellation problem in order to overcome the problems of slow convergence due to spectrally dynamic input and high computational costs associated with a single, long adaptive filter. Research into the convergence characteristics of subband acoustic echo cancelers (AECs) have either used Gaussian white noise, USASI noise (...
متن کاملSignal modelling in wireless fading channels using spherically invariant processes
In this paper we propose the application of spherically invariant random processes for joint modeling of the fluctuations of the signal envelope and phase in narrowband wireless fading channels. In this model, phase has uniform distribution (which is very common in fading channels), while the envelope can be distributed according to an arbitrary distribution law (which includes Rayleigh as a sp...
متن کاملEfficiency evaluation of wheat farming: a network data envelopment analysis approach
Traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA) models deal with measurement of relative efficiency of decision making units (DMUs) in which multiple-inputs consumed to produce multiple-outputs. One of the drawbacks of these models is neglecting internal processes of each system, which may have intermediate products and/or independent inputs and/or outputs. In this paper some methods which are usab...
متن کاملRobust Control Synchronization on Multi-Story Structure under Earthquake Loads and Random Forces using H∞ Algorithm
In this paper, the concept of synchronization control along with robust H∞ control are considered to evaluate the seismic response control on multi-story structures. To show the accuracy of the novel algorithm, a five-story structure is evaluated under the EL-Centro earthquake load. In order to find the performance of the novel algorithm, random and uncertainty processes corresponding...
متن کاملSpherically Symmetric Random Permutations
We consider random permutations which are spherically symmetric with respect to a metric on the symmetric group Sn and are consistent as n varies. The extreme infinitely spherically symmetric permutation-valued processes are identified for the Hamming, Kendall-tau and Caley metrics. The proofs in all three cases are based on a unified approach through stochastic monotonicity. MSC:
